The Missionaries originally formed in the fall of 2005 with the intention of expanding what is popularly considered music.
The band began incorporating spiritual ideas into their music to open awareness around religious fundamentalism.
The Missionaries released their debut album, Going Out There, under Who's Getting Mr. Tasty Productions in late spring 2006. The Missionaries original experimental sound and critical views of organized religion and post-modern culture were well received.
The Missionaries followed their debut with a triple disc album referred to as MMM, which was released in the fall 2007 under Who's Getting Mr. Tasty Productions. The first disc, Mister, was rock oriented, the second disc, Mystical, was in the vein of creating experimental music much like Going Out There, and the third disc, Melodies, was a stripped down version of the band with a more acoustic bluesy sound. MMM also marked the beginning of several collaborations with outside artists who contributed to the triple disc album.
The Missionaries took what appeared to be a substantial break after the release of MMM and began secretly working on Alpha & Omega. The guitar and drum parts for the album were actually recorded on the final day of recording for MMM. Over the next 2 years the Missionaries fleshed the songs out adding more instruments and vocals to the basic guitar and drum tracks. Alpha & Omega marks The Missionaries return to rock and is a more straightforward album both in musical composition and lyrical content.
